Syracuse City Recorder Records

The Syracuse City Recorder is the official custodian of city-level public records. The Recorder keeps City Council minutes, ordinances, resolutions, and city contracts. All GRAMA requests for city records are handled by this office. You can visit in person, send a written request by mail, or check the city's website for documents already posted online.

Inspection of city records is free. Copies cost $0.25 per page under Utah Code section 63G-2. If your request is large or requires a lot of staff time to compile, the city may add a charge for that work. Call ahead at (801) 614-9660 to ask about fees before you file a complex request. The Recorder must respond within 10 business days for most requests. You can also check the Syracuse City website for agendas, minutes, and other documents already posted for public use.

Records held by the Recorder go back several years and cover all formal council actions, adopted ordinances, and contracts between the city and its vendors. For records from other city departments, the Recorder can direct you to the right office or accept and route the request on your behalf.

Case records from this court can be searched online through Utah Courts XChange. Searches cost $0.35 each. A monthly subscription for unlimited searches costs $40. XChange shows docket entries, party names, case status, and filing history. You can search by name or case number. If you want to avoid the fee, free public terminals are available at the Farmington courthouse during business hours.

To get copies of actual court documents, contact the clerk's office at (801) 447-3800 or visit the Farmington courthouse. The clerk will tell you which records are available for public access and what the copy fees are. Most civil and criminal records are open. Sealed juvenile files and certain domestic cases may have access restrictions.

Note: Davis County does not have a separate justice court in Syracuse. All court matters are handled through the Second District courthouse in Farmington.

Criminal Background Checks

Statewide criminal history in Utah is managed by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. BCI holds data from law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Davis County Sheriff's Office.

A name-based background check costs $15 and can be ordered online through the Utah BCI website. BCI can be reached at (801) 965-4445. A fingerprint-based check costs $33.25 and is typically required for employment or licensing purposes where a higher level of accuracy is needed.
